Windows Issues.

I have updated my website with a new version of my JavaScript and new page
design tweaks. I have added some new CSS styles that are Firefox specific
but will display just fine if you are not using Firefox 1.5.

But they allow you to have multiple columns of text on a web page. And this
is quite good for web design and will enable web designers to create nicer
looking pages. And squeeze more content into a page with less scrolling. And
this will enable pages to be created that are more fun to browse and fit
more content into less space. And we love this dont we. I know I can use it
for something and it is very good to have something new in the web design
world.

I have tried to fix a PC today, a Windows 98 machine that has a failing hard
drive and I tried to run Scandisk and it would not work at all. It was
trying to move data from one part of the hard drive to another to fix
damaged sectors of the hard drive and it could not manage it as the hard
drive is failing. And he had problems with pop up windows on his machine,
which is running Internet Explorer 5.0. Which is a heap of shit btw. Anyway,
he is having a heap of problems, but at least I could try and fix the
problems with the popups, I just installed Google Toolbar and that was
fixed. He may need a new hard drive though, best to put the new one in with
the old one and use Windows Explorer to copy the data over after setting up
the drive with FDISK. Should be simple. If the hard drive is going to fail,
then there is not much that can be done about it. Very annoying, but if you
catch it in time you can be alright.

Modern hard drives should be pretty resilient anyway. It is just the odd one
that will fail. Especially if you are running Windows 98 and the swap file
is always thrashing and running the hard drive ragged. This is not good for
any hardware.

I also installed a new HOSTS file into C: Windows that will hopefully block
some of the banner ads and pop-ups on the web. But there are so many of them
that it is a losing battle.

New JavaScript.

I have updated my JavaScript and my doominfo.htm page. And I have re-coded
one of the scripts on my cgi-code page. I have also fixed bugs with my
viewblog.cgi and now I have less to worry about now. Life is good when your
website is running more smoothly...

I have seen a story on Slashdot about Opera 9 passing the ACID2 test.

http://it.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=179976&threshold=-1&mode=flat&commentsort=0&op=Change

http://www.webstandards.org/act/acid2/test.html#top

Quite good, IE6 totally fails this test and not surprisingly either. IE7
will not pass it either, maybe not even IE9. But Microsoft are always behind
the ball when it comes to web standards. Firefox 1.5 is way better than IE
anyday.
